Drum repair * remake* re-lace

Rachael CrowBlog, Drum Making

As our drums are living, breathing beings, they need tending to as such…too much heat, too much damp, sometimes just neglect can cause them to loose their tightness.

As each drum is handcrafted from natural materials and birthed through a unique, intentional process, they are living items that respond to their environment.

While I take great care in their creation, as with most drum makers, I’m unable to offer guarantees, particularly several months after purchase, as there are many factors that can affect their condition — including changes in temperature, humidity, handling, or even how they’re played.

Often you can find ways to ‘fix’ your drum yourself- they warm up nicely by the fire or with a little hot water bottle tucked in the drum bag… but sometimes they are in need of extra TLC through a remake- like this one.

Retightening a drum does mean re-soaking and taking them completely apart.

I’ve even fixed drums that have been chewed by pets!

Contact me if your drum needs some extra love or repair.

I offer drum repairs starting at £100 (plus postage- customer pays postage to me and back to them) for a basic remake, if the drum needs extra lacing or a complete replacement of hide I will work out a price with you.

Carefully soaking the hide while on the drum is a tricky job, not allowing the wooden hoop to get wet and expand! This process takes a couple of days, then another day of soaking the whole hide, then the remake… hence the charge of at least £100.
