One of the greatest honours of my work is holding space for others as they birth their own drums. Each time I guide someone through this process, I am reminded of just how sacred and personal the journey is. To sit together, weaving hide to hoop, intention to form, is more than crafting an instrument — it is welcoming a living being into the world.
Every person who comes to make a drum arrives with a story. Some seek a drum for their circle, to lead rhythm and song in community. Others feel called to create a healing instrument, one that can support their work with clients or loved ones. Many come because they are longing for a tool that helps them go inward — a companion for meditation, visioning, and journeying. And sometimes, a drum is birthed simply as a reminder of courage and voice, a way to remember one’s own heartbeat and power.
To be a drum teacher is to witness all of these reasons — and more — with reverence. Each hide holds a memory, each hoop a container, each song a story. And when I see the spark in someone’s eyes as they hold their finished drum for the first time, I know that another sacred thread has been woven into the great tapestry of drumming.
This is why I feel such deep gratitude for the path of teaching. It is never “just” about making drums. It is about guiding people through transformation, helping them reconnect with the land, with their ancestors, with their creativity, and with their own spirit.
The calling to become a drum teacher is not simply about learning techniques — it is about stepping into the role of space-holder, circle-weaver, and guardian of an ancient practice. It is about supporting others as they meet themselves through the drum.
For me, this path is both humbling and uplifting, and I am so grateful for each apprentice who feels the same call. Together, we send sacred drums out into the world — for healing, for courage, for community, and for the generations yet to come.
Are you feeling the Call?
If your heart stirs as you read this, you may already be hearing the drum’s invitation. My Drum Teacher Training is a 9-month apprenticeship where you will learn not only the practical skills of drum making, but also the art of holding sacred space, guiding others, and weaving community through rhythm and ceremony.
I keep the circle small, to ensure deep guidance and connection. Together, we journey through two immersive in-person weekends, supported by online teachings, Zoom calls, and continued practice in your own time.
If you feel called to step into this path — to become a guide, a teacher, a weaver of drums and stories — I invite you to reach out to me directly. It would be my honour to walk this path alongside you.
