In ancient temples and tombs, women once carried vessels of sacred oils—frankincense, spikenard, rose, and myrrh—offering healing and blessing to the living and the dead.
These were the Myrrhophores: priestesses, mystics, and midwives of the threshold. Today, across the world, many are remembering this lineage.
Through the sacred art of anointing, a new wave of modern-day Myrrhophores is rising—women who listen with their hands, bless with intention, and awaken soul-memory with scent and touch.
This Month – July 2025, we are diving into sacred anointing in my Vitality Circle- join us here! Wild Vitality & Radiance Circle OR grab my FREE The Way of the Myrrhophore~ a FREE 10-page PDF ritual guide ~ keep reading to get to the link!
The Art of Anointing: A Ritual of Presence and Power
Anointing is more than applying oil to skin—it is a prayer in motion, a conversation between soul and scent, a sacred act of devotion that transcends words. Rooted in ancient spiritual traditions across cultures, the art of anointing carries the essence of blessing, healing, initiation, and remembrance.
To anoint is to consecrate—to make holy. And when we bring sacred oils to the body with intention, we are not just nourishing the skin; we are awakening archetypal memory, activating energy centers, and inviting Divine presence into the here and now.
The body speaks in symbols and sensation. Each place where we anoint holds energetic significance. A modern-day Myrrhophore listens with her hands, guided by intuition, scent, breath, and presence.
Here are some key anointing points and their deeper meanings:
Crown (Top of the Head)- Gateway to divine guidance, higher consciousness, cosmic remembrance.
A single drop placed gently with the fingertip or a glass wand. Let the oil spiral in like a celestial kiss, often accompanied by breath or silent invocation.
” I open to divine light. I remember who I am”
Third Eye (Center of the Brow) Seat of intuition, inner vision, and spiritual sight.
Trace a small circle or downward spiral. Allow the oil to anchor clarity and insight.
Ideal oils- Frankincense, blue lotus, myrrh, sandalwood.
“I see with the eyes of the soul”
Heart Center (Center of Chest)-The wellspring of love, grief, compassion, and soul truth.
Use both hands to gently press the oil into the heart. Linger here. Let the moment soften you.
Oils to consider- Rose, geranium, spikenard.
“I am love embodied. My heart is holy”
Throat (Base of Neck)- Portal of truth, creative expression, and sacred voice.
Gently stroke or tap the oil onto the hollow of the throat. Invite your words to become offerings.
Oils to consider- Blue chamomile, lavender, frankincense.
“I speak with grace and power.”
Womb or Sacral Space (Lower Abdomen)- Seat of creativity, feminine wisdom, emotional waters, and deep remembering.
Apply warm oil in a figure-eight or circular motion. Honour the cycles and life-force within.
Sacred scents-Jasmine, myrrh, clary sage, mugwort.
“I create in rhythm with the Divine.”
Feet (Soles)- Grounding, embodiment, and the path of devotion. A reminder that every step is sacred.
Massage oil slowly into the soles and heels, or gently trace a spiral on the arch.
Ideal oils- Vetiver, myrrh, cedarwood, patchouli.
“I walk the Earth as a priestess. I am rooted and radiant”

Combine with breath, sound, prayer, or song
Listen deeply – the body may ask for something new each time
In the sacred practice of anointing, you become both the vessel and the channel—the one who offers and the one who receives.
Whether in solitary ritual, a women’s circle, or as part of your drum blessings and breathwork ceremonies, anointing restores touch as holy and invites us to remember: we are consecrated in every moment.
