My response to the Channel 4 menopause programme & an adrenal cocktail recipe!

#therealtruthaboutmenopause
I was disappointed with the channel 4 menopause programme last night, ok it’s something that it’s being talked about, being brought out into the open, and made less taboo. And Davina did a great job at tackling embarrassing issues like dry vaginas and loss of libido, but all the way through I felt like it was one big advert for HRT. (I will do some digging cos often it is the case that there are pharmaceutical connections!)
Now I know many women have debilitating menopause symptoms, and moon time symptoms, I’ve worked with women around these my whole life. I also know first hand the effects of hormone imbalance and excess hormones- for me it was estrogenic cancer.
We just can’t take playing around with our hormones lightly! Which is why, as the show said, many women opt for natural support!
Menopause is an initiation into wise woman, it’s a time of deep listening…symptoms are a sign of something being out of kilter, not being tuned into!
Soooo many things can help…like one woman on it said- her support group got her through! Being with other moon pause women is vital, reassuring one another your not crazy because you feel like leaving your job, husband, kids- one or all three!
Changing your diet… did you know your immune system drops during perimenopause? It’s time to look at diet, boost your immune system, ditch the crap!
It’s time for loads of self care, journalling, going within to discover who you will be when you emerge from the moon pause cocoon! The Menopause journey is free therapy!

Many women are just needing to slow down, de-stress (i know, easier said than done) and calm their adrenals- so I’m sharing my adrenal calming cocktail recipe with you….

any “Adrenal Cocktail” recipe should deliver approximately:

  • 375mg of Potassium
  • 460mg of Sodium
  • 60mg of Wholefood Vitamin C

Recipe number 1

  • 4 Oz. of Orange Juice
    • Fresh squeezed is best, but not essential. The Vitamin-C Complex makes sure that the minerals noted below get to the Liver to then nourish the Adrenals.
  • 1/4 tsp of Cream of Tartar
    • This is an excellent source of Potassium, or you can use Potassium Bicarbonate.
  • 1/4 tsp of fresh (wet) Celtic Sea Salt
    • This is an excellent source of Sodium & 90+ other trace minerals.

Take 1-2 times/day — an hour before or after food (usually around 10am and/or 2pm) The original source of this recipe was Susan Blackard, NP, ND, PhD at the Rejuvenation Health Center in Springfield, MO.  The following alternatives were compiled by Valerie Engh.

Recipe number 2

Replaces Cream of Tartar & Orange Juice with Coconut Water and Wholefood Vitamin C.

  • 8 oz. / 1 cup / 250 mL of Coconut Water
  • 1/4 tsp of  fresh (wet) Celtic Sea Salt
  • 60mg of Wholefood Vitamin C

Recipe number 3

Uses water instead of Cream of Tartar, Orange Juice, or Coconut Water.

  • 1/4 tsp Potassium Bicarbonate Powder(you want to ensure you receive ~375mg of Potassium.)
  • 1/4 tsp of fresh (wet) Celtic Sea Salt
  • 60mg of Wholefood Vitamin C
  • 4 oz. of purified water

Recipe number 4

Uses Cream of Tartar, but uses water instead of Orange Juice or Coconut Water.

  • 3/4 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 1/4 tsp of fresh ground Redmond’s Real Salt or Sea Salt
  • 60mg of Wholefood Vitamin C
  • 4 oz. of purified water

Other Substitutions

  1. You may substitute Wholefood Vitamin C for ~1/2 a fresh squeezed Lime or Lemon.
  2. You may substitute Potassium Bicarbonate for Potassium Gluconate or Potassium Chloride.  Please adjust quantity to ensure you are getting 375mg of Potassium.

Enjoy!
